Mo and Kate had such chemistry. This has been evident for the past 16 years and neither have acted upon it. Kate, Kate, Kate--sometimes I really wanted to yell at her to just open up to Mo. However, they had to work it out in their own time. This book is so well written that I lived in the pages and now consider all these women friends of mine. There was a lot of angst but it was all mental and emotional and very well delivered to the reader. This has to be a must read for those who love "love". I enjoyed every page and was not happy to let these characters go. Oh, but wait----there will be a third book in the series and it will be out very soon. Very happy about that. I absolutely recommend both books (so far) in the series but each can be read as a stand alone. I can truthfully say that this book is exquisitely written. Thank you to the author for sharing her talent of writing with the rest of us. If you want to read a marshmallow fluff romance, this book is not for you. It deals unflinchingly with the years of pain of PTSD, depression, and anorexia endured, mostly in secret, by of one of the main characters, a young woman from a wealthy family who seems to have everything. You may find yourself annoyed by her neurotic self-absorption until the shocking cause of her emotional distancing and lack of self-esteem are revealed. But the story is punctuated with laugh-out-loud humor, beautiful descriptive writing, artfully developed characters, and romantic entanglements. It tells the story of three bright college roommates whose unflinching kindness and support for one another help two of them, 16 years later, finally become the couple who fell magically in love as college freshmen. The author deals deftly with how racism, classism, and homophobia affected the young women. But the unusual HEA happens because of their courage, kindness, and belief in families of choice. If you believe in love, this story will move you with its realism and warmth to a degree rarely found in romance novels. I’m a voracious reader (even pre-Corona virus isolation) and this is one of the best books I’ve read in recent years of any genre.
